This program provides an exemption of $25,000 to individuals that have owned homestead property in Maine for at least 12 months and make the property they occupy on April 1 their permanent residence.
This exemption is available to a veteran who served during a recognized war period and is 62 years or older; or, is receiving 100% disability as a Veteran; or, became 100% disabled while serving. The exemption amount is $6,000.

A veteran who received a federal grant for a specially adapted housing unit may receive $50,000.
An individual who is determined to be legally blind receives $4,000.
Properties that are fully exempt may include those that are owned by a governmental entity, school systems, non-profits, and other institutions.
You may qualify for one or more exemptions and additional information is listed on the State of Maine website. Visit their website for tax exemption application forms. Applications must be received by April 1st.
