Full Time Public Safety Dispatchers
The Town of Bar Harbor is seeking a full time Public Safety Dispatcher for the Bar Harbor & Mount Desert Police Department. This position is an immediate vacancy and will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to utilize modern computer systems and related software programs.
Responsibilities include responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, accurately relaying information to appropriate service providers (Fire, Police, and Ambulance); radio communications with mobile police, fire, ambulance and public works; making inquiries of and entering data into computer systems.
Applicants should have the ability to interact positively with members of the public and possess good computer skills. Applicants must be available to work shifts which may include days, nights, weekends and holidays.
This position is hourly with a competitive wage and is supervised by the Chief of Police. The full-time position will include a benefits package including vacation, sick and holiday pay as well as retirement and health insurance. Uniforms are also provided.
Candidates who are selected for consideration will be subject to a pre-employment review which will include a thorough background investigation. Once hired, the candidate will receive comprehensive on the job training as well as state mandated training including 40 hours of Certified Terminal Operator (CTO) training. In addition, the full time candidate will be required to attend a 40 hour Emergency Tele-communicator Course (ETC).
