When the warmer weather arrives, there’s nothing better than the smell of food on the grill. Many people like to grill outdoors, but when grills are not used safely, things can go horribly wrong. Every year, fire departments respond to hundreds of fires involving grills, hibachis, and barbecues. These fires cause injuries and property damage. Grill users are encouraged to be aware of the proper use of propane, fire prevention techniques, how to dispose of used charcoal, basic food safety and to always follow the grill manufacturer’s information. Grill safety information is available from the National Fire Protection Association and the Bar Harbor Public Health & Safety webpage. For more safety information please contact Michael Gurtler, Deputy Code Enforcement Officer at: 207-288-3329.
