The State of Maine follows the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) drinking water standards and health advisory levels for contaminants found in well water. 1 in 10 wells in Maine has too much arsenic, uranium, radon, or other harmful chemicals. The only way to know if your water is safe to drink is to test it. Public water supplies meet EPA standards and can provide water quality information. Learn more about Water Quality below.
