Our Services
BHFD serves to protect the lives and property of the citizens and visitors of the Town of Bar Harbor.
We provide the following services to our community:

Rescue operations, including vehicle extrication, ice rescue, and confined space rescue

Advanced life support emergency medical services and transport

Our combination department is comprised of both full-time staff and call members operating out of a central station in downtown Bar Harbor and a substation located in Town Hill. Our apparatus fleet consists of 2 engine pumpers, 1 ladder truck, 1 tanker pumper, 3 ambulances, and a mass casualty response trailer.
Response Area
The Town of Bar Harbor covers 45 square miles on the north side on Mount Desert Island, including 33 miles of coast line, 66 miles of road, and 10,156 acres within Acadia National Park. In addition to serving the town of Bar Harbor, we provide mutual aid response to the surrounding towns.
5,000 people call Bar Harbor home year round, with the summer population swelling to approximately 20,000. In addition, Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island draws millions of visitors each year.
