The Bar Harbor Solid Waste and Recycling is a division of the Department of Public Works.  Bar Harbor takes a proactive stance towards recycling.  Our solid waste/recycling facility is located at White Spruce Road in Bar Harbor
(Ledgelawn Ave., past the Highway Garage, over the bridge and bear left up the hill).

HOURS OF OPERATION
Summer

Mon 13 Fri 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sat/Sundays 8:00 a.m. to 12:00N
Holidays 13   7:00 a.m. to 12:00N
(Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day and Veterans Day)

Winter
Mon 13 Fri 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sat 8:00 a.m. to 12:00N
Sundays and Holidays - closed

Summer hours begin mid-May and winter hours begin mid-October. 

Bar Harbor does not offer municipal curbside pickup of your solid waste or recyclables.  You may either drop it by our facilities during our business hours, or there are several private haulers in the area offering reasonable fees for regular pickup.

Recyclables

The Bar Harbor Transfer Station is limited in what it can accept.  Currently white goods, metals and recyclables are accepted at the Transfer Station.  Large items, including brush, carpets, furniture, and mattresses are not accepted in Bar Harbor and must be taken to EMR.
Bar Harbor 19s recycling facility will accept:

Corrugated cardboard
Newspaper, catalogues, and magazines
Office paper
Mixed paper 13 cereal boxes and similar types of cardboard, egg cartons, junk mail, envelopes, any other types of paper you are unsure of
HDP type 2 plastic with a seam
Styrofoam packing peanuts (please keep them separate from plastic)
Plastic Sleds
Glass 13 all types with the exception of fluorescent bulbs
Aluminum cans
Tin or steel cans
Metal Bed Springs
Batteries 13 car and regular
Empty Gasoline Cans
Bicycles
Tires WITHOUT rims
Scrap metal
Fluorescent/mercury bulbs
Large items, including brush, carpets, furniture, and mattresses are not accepted in Bar Harbor and must be taken to
Eastern Maine Recycling (EMR) in Southwest Harbor.
