Household Hazardous/Universal Waste 2008 MDI Regional Collection
The Acadia Disposal District announces the 2008 MDI Regional Collection of Household Hazardous Waste/Universal Waste scheduled for 2008, when residents from sponsoring communities will be able to dispose of a limited amount of household hazardous materials at no cost.
The event will be held at the Mount Desert Island High School, Eagle Lake Road in Bar Harbor on October 11 from 9:00 AM -- 1:00 PM and will serve the following sponsoring towns: Bar Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Trenton, Lamoine, Swans Island and Mt. Desert.
Bar Harbor residents will be required to pre-register and receive a permit from the Highway Division at 135 Ledgelawn Avenue.
The permit must be presented with the items at the collection site. Examples of materials that will be accepted include household cleaners, oil-based paint, used motor oil, pesticides, herbicides, and photo chemicals. Examples of universal waste include fluorescent light bulbs, rechargeable batteries and mercury thermometers. No computer monitors or TVs will be accepted from Bar Harbor residents. (These items may be taken at no cost to the Bar Harbor Recycling Center on White Spruce Road during all hours of operation.)
