The Bar Harbor Highway Division has an immediate opening for the position of Driver / Laborer. The Highway Division is responsible for maintaining roads, sidewalks, drainage systems, outdoor recreational facilities, cemeteries and comfort stations throughout the Town, as well as general support for various community events and initiatives. The Town relies heavily on the Highway Division, and as such, shifting priorities to serve the needs of the community are to be expected.
Duties for the position include snow plowing and removal, road and sidewalk repair, tree and brush trimming, emptying trashcans, and early morning responsibilities during the warmer months. Standby duty is required during the winter season.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, team player with a high school diploma or GED equivalent, valid Class B Maine Commercial Driver License (CDL) or the ability to achieve within six months of employment, a clean licensed driving history, the ability to lift heavy objects and to work in a variety of weather conditions. Prior experience with placing asphalt, forming concrete, operation in or around heavy equipment and specialty equipment, such as a chain saw or dump truck, and /or a willingness to learn are a plus.
