Ways to Request an Absentee Ballot

  • Online using the State of Maine Absentee Ballot Request Service
  • By mail (voter may request for self only): Download the application and mail to Town Clerk's Office, 93 Cottage Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
  • By phone (voter may request for self only): call 207-288-4098.
  • In person in the Town Clerk's office (voter may request for self and/or immediate family members).
Last day to request an absentee ballot or vote in the Clerk's Office is Thursday, June 9.
To assist another person who is not an immediate family member in obtaining an absentee ballot, please contact the Town Clerk's office. You may request an absentee ballot 90 days prior to the elections. Ballots are available approximately 30 days prior to the election. You can track the status of your absentee ballot here.

Election Materials

Write-in candidates: Any qualified resident interested in being considered a write-in candidate for the town election must file a declaration of write-in candidacy with the Town Clerk on or before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9. The candidate must meet all the other qualifications for the office, and must receive a minimum of 25 votes to be elected.

Important Dates to Remember

  • Beginning Wednesday, May 25, 2022 voter registration must be in person, rather than by mail. Voters must show proof of identity and proof of residency.
  • Friday, May 27, 2022 is the last day to submit a voter registration application to change parties and be eligible to participate in that party's June 14 primary. Unenrolled voters (not currently enrolled in a party) may change party affiliation up to and including the primary election day and participate in the primary.
  • June 9 is the last day to request an absentee ballot or vote in the Clerk's Office.
  • Absentee Ballot envelopes must be received by close of polls, 8pm on Tuesday, June 14.
