Our Services

The BHFD serves to protect the lives and property of the citizens and visitors of the Town of Bar Harbor.  We provide Fire Suppression, Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Services and Transport, Fire Prevention, Fire Inspections, and Education for our community.

Our combination department is comprised of 10 Full time staff and 21 Call Members operating out of a central station in downtown Bar Harbor and a substation located in the Town Hill District.  Full Time staffing includes 1 Fire Chief, 3 Chief Officers, 3 FF/Paramedics, and 3 FF/EMT’s.  Our apparatus consists of 2 Engine Pumpers, 1 Ladder truck, 1 Tanker Pumper, 3 Ambulances, and a Mass Causualty Response Trailer.

 Response Area

The Town of Bar Harbor is 45 square miles in size located on Mount Desert Island including 33 miles of coast line, 66 miles of road, and 10,156 acres within Acadia National Park.  In addition to serving the town of Bar Harbor, we provide mutual aid response to the surrounding towns for fire suppression and emergency medical care and transport.

5000 people call Bar Harbor home year round with the summer population swelling to approximately 18,000.  Acadia National park on Mt Desert Island draws 2 million visitors per year.
