The Bar Harbor Solid Waste and Recycling is a division of the Department of Public Works. Bar Harbor takes a proactive stance towards recycling. Our solid waste / recycling facility is located at White Spruce Road in Bar Harbor.

Recyclables


The Bar Harbor Transfer Station is limited in what it can accept. Currently white goods, metals, and recyclables are accepted at the Transfer Station. Large items, including brush, carpets, furniture, and mattresses are not accepted in Bar Harbor and must be taken to Eastern Maine Recycling (EMR).
Bar Harbor's recycling facility will accept the following:
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Newspaper, catalogs, and magazines
  • Office paper
  • Mixed paper, cereal boxes, and similar types of cardboard, egg cartons, junk mail, envelopes, any other types of paper of which you are unsure
  • Plastics
  • Tin or steel cans
  • Batteries, car and regular
  • Fluorescent / mercury bulbs
  • Glass of all types with the exception of fluorescent bulbs
  • Glass of all types with the exception of      fluorescent bulbs
  • Aluminum cans
