The Bar Harbor Recycling Center is limited in what it can accept.  Currently, white goods, metals, and recyclables are accepted at the Public Works Facility in Hulls Cove, off Crooked Road.  Large items, including brush (fee charged), carpets, furniture, and mattresses are not accepted in Bar Harbor and must be taken to Eastern Maine Recycling (EMR) in Southwest Harbor on Long Pond Road.  An annual hazardous waste collection event is offered off-site, typically in the fall (the event is publicized when scheduled).
Bar Harbor's Recycling Center WILL accept the following materials.  There are separate bins on-site for the collection of these items:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Newspaper, catalogs, and magazines
  • Office paper
  • Mixed paper, cereal boxes, and similar types of cardboard, egg cartons, junk mail, envelopes, any other types of paper of which you are unsure
  • Plastics
  • Tin or steel cans
  • Batteries, car and regular
  • Fluorescent / mercury bulbs
  • Glass of all types
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Aluminum cans
